Empowerment of families of the missing

ICMP seeks to ensure that associations of families of missing persons are strong, independent and effectively engaged in clarifying the fate of their missing relatives. In this regard, ICMP supports associations of family members through grant programs and capacity building initiatives. Activities that ICMP supports have included data collection, lobbying decision-makers, dissemination of information to family members of the missing and raising public awareness of the missing persons issue.
ICMP also engages family associations in effective regional networks that address the specific rights and needs of family members. This includes support for family association coordination mechanisms, as well as opportunities for dialogue between civil society and government. A Directory of Associations of Families of Missing Persons has been published by ICMP to facilitate contacts among family associations, other NGOs, and the local and international public.
