James V. Kimsey, Chairman
Born on September 15, 1939, in Washington D.C., James Kimsey attended Georgetown University and then received an appointment to West Point. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was captain in charge of the construction and operation of an orphanage, which he has continued to support for thirty years.
During his second tour in Vietnam, Mr. Kimsey served as assistant to the commanding general of special operations. In 1969, he left the Army and embarked on a business career.
In 1985, he founded Quantum Computer Services, which in 1990 was renamed America Online, Inc. Mr Kimsey served as AOL’s President and CEO for its first decade and in 1997, he resigned from the board to serve as Chairman of the Kimsey Foundation, a Philanthropic Foundation for disadvantaged youth in Washington D.C.
Mr. Kimsey is currently Chairman of the Kimsey Foundation, Founding CEO and Chairman Emeritus of America Online, and is a member of the board of directors of several companies, including Capital One Financial Corporation and Thayer Capital. He also contributes his leadership to numerous civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Kimsey currently resides in Washington, DC.
James Kimsey has been Commissioner and Chairman of ICMP since May 2001.
