British Minister for Europe praises ICMP

Rene Huel, Head of ICMP DNA Laboratories explains the DNA identification proces to the United Kingdom Minister for Europe, Mr. Jim MurphyDuring his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Kingdom Minister for Europe, Mr. Jim Murphy visited the DNA Laboratory and offices of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Sarajevo today.

Accompanied by ICMP’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Adam Boys, and the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Mr. Matthew Rycroft, the Minister toured the laboratory in Sarajevo where ICMP performs DNA extraction and genetic profiling of samples from mortal remains and of blood samples from surviving relatives.

HR/EUSR Lajčák tours ICMP’s Podrinje Identification Project in TuzlaThe High Representative and EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajčák, visited the facilities of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Tuzla today. In his first visit to ICMP, the HR/EUSR toured the Podrinje Identification Project (PIP) and the Identification Coordination Division (ICD).Accompanied by the ICMP Chief Operating Officer, Adam Boys, the HR/EUSR first visited PIP, established to assist in resolving the specific problems related to the identification of persons missing from the 1995 fall of Srebrenica, and where mortal remains of these victims are examined and stored until final identification. The HR/EUSR saw first-hand how ICMP forensic experts conduct ante-mortem and post-mortem data comparisons, and assist the domestic authorities in making the final determination of identity such that families can finally bury their loved ones with dignity.
